Cyclone Alfred certainly disrupted business and boating activity in Southeast Queensland over the past week. Our thoughts are with the businesses that are still unable to operate due to power loss or damage.

Fortunately we have not had reports of any significant damage to properties. TC Alfred was the first cyclone to visit the region in some 50 years and delivered some of South-East Queensland’s highest recorded rainfall totals in decades, including Brisbane’s wettest day in half a century.

Maritime Safety Queensland have lifted the port closures that were in place and encourage all boaties to use extreme caution when boating due to debris in impacted waterways.

BIA’s International Women’s Day events in Sydney and Adelaide were an outstanding success. The support of our members is greatly appreciated and well done to the BIA team for bringing together a fantastic group of speakers and attendees who by all accounts had a wonderful time. Due to the weather at the Gold Coast, this event has been postponed to the end of March.

State Council Meetings are currently underway, followed soon after by our AGM’s. Please keep an eye out for news regarding vacant State council positions. I encourage anyone that is keen to contribute toward a positive future for Australia’s marine industry to enquire about becoming a State councillor.

As we are already halfway through March, I’m hoping the boating community is gearing up for the Easter long weekend which is traditionally a wonderful opportunity for people across Australia to experience and enjoy our waterways with family and friends, and that your businesses are experiencing a lift in trading.

See you on the water.
