Marine Jobs

Marine Jobs participates on several jobs and skills working groups. Recently, QTIC (Queensland Tourism Industry Council) met to discuss support for the marine tourism industry with a focus on marine qualifications.

Recent visits from the Marine Jobs team to regions which depend heavily on marine tourism have highlighted a significant skills gap indicate challenges with local talent pipelines. We will be progressing jointly with QTIC to deliver solutions for our industry and regions impacted.

Last week the Qld General Manufacturing (IRG) Industry Reference Group met, with Marine Jobs taking the lead on a project to deliver a Cert III in Manufactured Textiles in QLD. This will have great application for sail lofts and marine trimmers with the ability to deliver this qualification in the workplace. 2025 in Summary

This year Marine Jobs will have participated nearly 60 events in the jobs and skills space. This includes:

12 tours of the marine precinct at Coomera to more than 250 students and teaching staff

More than 400 students attending the Marine Jobs Careers Panel at Sydney Boat Show in August

BIA hosted a meeting of the national Jobs Skills Council for marine technicians and trimmers at Coomera Marine Precinct and provided this group a guided tour of several major marine business relevant to those trade skills and more.

In regional NSW we helped deliver two work experience programs “Float Your Boat” in conjunction with Regional Education and Industry Partnership NSW (REIP) to bring the marine industry alive to students in yeas 10 and 11. These programs culminate with students undertaking their Marine Card and being ‘job ready’ for work experience with local marine businesses.

In addition to this Marine Jobs has been part of the inaugural Brisbane Maritime Careers Expo delivered in collaboration with the Port of Brisbane, QLD Education and local maritime and marine businesses. Following this collaboration, new stakeholder relationships have formed, and we have been able to present Marine Jobs to over 50 schools in the Brisbane Metro Areas via a “Spotlight on Industry” presentation session.

The Marine Taster Pilot with TAFE QLD and Men of Business (MOB) has been positively received, with follow up activities being rolled out to capture further opportunities for this cohort of young men. BIA is planning on expanding this program further in 2026, if you would like to get involved, please reach out to Maria Hobbs info@marinejobs.org.au

The Marine Jobs team estimates we’ve been able to deliver Marine Jobs information and pathways by way of one-to-one interactions to almost 3,000 students, parents, young people and their supporters this year.

We’re currently planning our 2026 program, with the roll out of more Marine Trade taster programs and targeted activities to deliver real solutions to the jobs and skills challenges our industry faces.
