As we progress through January 2023, one of our new programs for delivery is the Boating Industry Academy. The official start date for the first 18 young people (YP), including both a combination of year 10 and 11 starters, was Thursday 12 January 2023. The Boating Industry Academy began with inductions at the AITC Robina Campus and then a group from Year 11 experienced a team building event.

Pictured (left to right) in Toowomba are Nathan Reynolds (AITC), Michael Date (BIA), a number of Rookie’s on the Rookie Program along with some new Young People, and Lee Smith (AITC).

The program itself will see the 18 YP do a two-year (Years’ 11 and 12) combination of in-industry with potential employers and an in-school educational set. This will involve a 12-week cycle, being 7 weeks in-industry and 5 weeks in-school. Site visits start next week, within the Coomera Marine Precinct.

This is a Boating Industry Academy, for industry by industry. There are approximately 10 Gold Coast Marine Precinct consortium / employer members on-board and we thank you all sincerely. This is a long-term project, to deliver a sustainable pipeline preparing young people to move into our industry, and it is intended to roll out into other States and areas when and where appropriate. For more information, please contact the BIA and email michael@bia.org.au

Our BIA Team caught up last week in Sydney and worked through our Key Priorities for the year ahead. There is a lot to achieve, some change will be forthcoming. Notwithstanding the roll out of our Boating Industry Academy, which is an investment in the industry’s future, we are rolling out new Marine Card and Trade Membership programs next week. Please keep an eye on emails and get onboard.

A new version of E-News is coming soon, please stay tuned, and all the very best for a safe and fun Australia Day. Be safe on the water!
