Thank you to the 112 BIA members who took part in this year’s BIA Ltd AGM, which was conducted successfully yesterday, with your Board of Directors receiving the report of the online AGM ballot, held during preceding week. All resolutions were approved, including those to confirm the State council director nominations to the BIA Board and to confer Life Membership on Darren Vaux.

Standing down at the AGM after many year service to the Board of BIA Ltd and previously BIA NSW Ltd was Simon Cook, Life Member, and we sincerely thank Simon for his support and advice over the last 20 years.

The AGM is an important part of the governance of the BIA as your industry association, and members taking part had previously been part of the State AGM meetings and networking events held at end of March in SA, NSW and Qld.  It’s encouraging to see around 20 per cent of members taking time to cast a ballot.

Following the AGM, the Board of Directors met and elected Andrew Fielding of Anchorline Yacht Brokers (Qld) to serve as Chairman of the Board and President of the BIA for the next 12 months. Adam Smith of Australian Boating College, Sydney (NSW) was elected as vice-President and Richard Hopkins of EJ Milde & Co (SA) was elected as Treasurer.

Congratulations to Andrew and his Board of Directors and on behalf of the BIA staff team, we look forward to working with you in the year ahead. The BIA Ltd Board of Directors for 2023 list is available here.

On Saturday 13 May 2023, Marine Jobs held a Maritime Careers Expo at TAFE Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef International Marine College within the Cairns Marine Precinct. The Expo, as lead by David Good’s Superyacht Team, and championed by Adam Chanter of Marine Jobs, was indeed a success with 1228 visitors to the event, being either job seekers or maritime employers.

The expo featured approximately 30 exhibitors and included representatives from both industry and government agencies. All exhibitors came together to campaign careers within the Marine Industry. David Good of Superyacht Australia and myself had the opportunity meeting with the Hon Dianne (Di) Farmer, Minister for Employment and Small Business and Minister for Training and Skills Development, and discussed employment opportunities within our industry, pressure points that require support by Government, and what our Members are faced with, regarding employment and retention of staff.

The morning was a success, and the Marine Jobs team intends to roll out this Careers Expo across Australia, major boat building and marine manufacturing regions. We look forward to working together for all Marine Industry Members.
