Dear Mr Vaux

MARITIME AND BOATING INFRASTRUCTURE COVID-19 RECOVERY

Thank you for your correspondence dated 19 June 2020 regarding maritime and boating infrastructure COVID-19 recovery and your organisation’s submission.

The importance of the boating and marine based tourism industries and its potential to stimulate the economy is acknowledged. The State Government recently announced rent relief for commercial lessees and waived pen and mooring fees for fishing and charter vessel customers to stimulate economic recovery at Department of Transport (DoT) managed boat harbours.

The McGowan Government continues to deliver its election commitments towards new boating infrastructure at Bremmer Bay, Broome, Bunbury, Ocean Reef and Port Headland. Many of these projects have progressed through the planning stages and are preparing for construction to deliver needed infrastructure, both in metropolitan and regional locations.

The Government is also committed to delivering safe navigable waters and collaboratively planning, delivering and managing maritime development for the economic and social prosperity of Western Australia to meet the growing demand. For example, DoT continues its delivery of boating infrastructure in partnership with local government and other agencies through the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme.

Thank you for raising this matter.

Yours sincerely

HON RITA SAFFIOTI MLA
MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT
